The Humble Filipino

Friedrich Nietzsche refers being humble as "the morality of slaves". But we all know that being humble is having or showing a modest or low estimate of one's own importance.

Filipinos are known for many negative values and we admit that even if it's negative, some of us practices those values. A Filipinos positive value like being humble is one of those I am proud of.

Going back to what Friedrich describe about the humbleness of a Filipino. The morality of slaves? Seriously? We all know that Filipino really has this humbleness within. We do not raised our own achievements instead, we better wait for the compliment and appreciation of others regarding our work. Some viewed humbleness as being weak, they viewed it negatively and better be in the side of Master-slave morality which seen as strong-willed, values pride, strength and nobility while slave morality as kindness, humility and sympathy. Our humbleness value belongs to slave morality. In addition to what Friedrich said, "slave morality is a reaction to oppression" so it villainizes its oppressors. Even though it is not the strongest that we have atleast the good thing is that, it is the most useful for the whole community. When poor Filipinos will work abroad as a care giver, a nanny or a housekeeper, foreigners discriminates our ability to socialize and work for large companies outside Philippines. But since we do not posses high pride, we don't get them into our nerves. And that's because we have that value and we are a humble Filipino!

I believe that Filipinos still practicing humbleness as generation to generation passed this positive Filipino value. These values are the only treasure we have that marks us as a true Filipino. In school, some of our professors teaches us the same thing we've already learned in high school but as a student, we humbly listens to the teachings of our teachers for we also respect their rank and gap between us. Filipinos never forget the value of being humble when it comes to the achievements and luck in life. We always see the difference of every individual and respects the stand of each. Good deeds are important to Filipinos and it's the concern of every individual for humility. We still practice being humble as our value because it is our easy way to emphasize with people, to understand and to connect with them because we don't think that highly to ourself. And this is who we really are. A true blooded Filipino knows every explanations and understand the simple word, HUMBLE.
